Unit Overview:
Students will explore the art, scientific data, history, production, and magic of shadow puppetry. They will discover the intricacies and nuances in creating and performing through the ARTSEDGE site, Playing with Shadows: An Introduction to Shadow Puppetry. This interactive site can be used as a stand-alone lesson or in conjunction with the lessons, Puppets on the Move: China and the Silk Road and Shadows & Light, Science & Puppetry.
Lesson Overviews:
Students will learn how light interacts with matter, by creating and performing shadow puppet plays.
Students will gain an understanding of the dynamics of trade in China, culminating in student-produced shadow puppet performances.
