Behind the Scenes at the Ballet

Swan Lake Behind the Scenes

Join us as ARTSEDGE photographers go backstage with the companies that perform at the Kennedy Center. We follow dancers, musicians and crew members, taking photos and video footage from load-in to final dress rehearsal.

The Stanislavsky Ballet Theatre performed at the Kennedy Center beginning December 8th, 1998, but preparation began long before opening night. By late November, the sets were on a ship bound for the U.S. They arrived at the Kennedy Center on December 7th, and that night the stage crews began laying down the dance floor, hanging lights and loading in scenery. Our Photo Diary from the Stanislavsky's visit can be seen here.
