It is difficult to play stringed
instruments (i.e., violin, viola,
cello, and bass) both softly and quickly
with a bow (BO). But musicians figured
out a way to do it. Instead of using
the bow, musicians quickly and lightly
pluck the strings with their fingers.
This technique is called pizzicato
(pit-zee-KAH-toh).
