Derek E. Gordon


Derek E. Gordon is Vice President for Education at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. He is responsible for overall planning, management, and supervision of the programs and operations of the Kennedy Center’s Education Department. In consultation with Billy Taylor, artistic advisor for jazz at the Center, Mr. Gordon is responsible for the development, planning, and supervision of all jazz programming at the Center including Billy Taylor’s Jazz at the Kennedy Center, the Art Tatum Pianorama Series, a new singer’s series, the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz festival, and a number of special performances in jazz. Mr. Gordon has a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from Louisiana State University. He was the executive director of the Pennsylvania State Arts Council, the Louisiana Division of the Arts, the Arts and Humanities Council of Greater Baton Rogue, and program associate for the Texas Council for the Arts.
