DerelictIn Derelict, Yeats portrays a very different aspect of the stalwart peasantry of Ireland. This is a figure that speaks more of tragedy, poverty, and unrelenting toil. Whereas the card players have a ruddy, companionable glow about them, this figure is pale, drooping, and very alone more related to the sea and sky through his cloud-like pallor and blue, ragged clothing than to the rich earthiness of the players.
