Slam KC performer Demetrius

Demetrius Amparam

Demetrius Amparam (Chicago, Illinois), a 20 year-old rapper and poet, is of Puerto Rican and African American descent. His experiences as a youth, growing up at a time when the student death toll was at its highest, was the catalyst for his writing. He used spoken word and hip-hop to keep himself out of trouble and to positively channel his emotions. Today, Amparam spends most of his time working on his music with an album scheduled for release in October; teaching and mentoring youth in poetry; performing; and finishing up his senior year at Valparaiso University with a triple major in sociology, communications, and marketing. He has also been featured on HBO’s Brave New Voices and is an International Poetry Champion finalist.
