Dance the night away!
Professional swing dance instructors Nina Gilkenson and Bobby White are going to teach you how to swing! In these videos, you'll learn the basics of swing dance, called East Coast Swing; take it up a notch with the Charleston; and if you're really swingin' after that, you can learn the most advanced swing dance, the Lindy Hop. So pay attention to their feet!
Lesson One: East Coast Swing
Nina, Bobby, and their friends are going to coach you through the basics of swing dance. Learn how to get your bodies moving, and then how to incorporate some simple moves to make your dance look great. Remember that East Coast Swing is based on triple-step moves (a 6-count beat). And the "Rock Step" you'll learn will also be used in lessons two and three.
Lesson Two: The Charleston
It's time to take it to the next level. Nina and Bobby show you how to do the Charleston, a different kind of swing dance. It's a little harder, so make sure that you've gone through lesson one before taking this on. You'll learn how to kick your legs, turn it out, and master "The Big Kick."
Lesson Three: Lindy Hop
This is the big one! The Lindy Hop is certainly the hardest dance to learn. It is based on an 8-count beat rather than a 6-count beat, so your feet with definitely be moving. But you'll be able to put everything you've learned in lessons one and two to good use. Once you learn the Lindy Hop, you'll be all set for your first major swing dance!
