On Location: Spotlight On Your Community brings your students the opportunity to tell the story of the arts in their community—and share that story with the rest of the world through their own documentaries shared through this Web site.

A Thomas Built bus, part of the Daimler family of transportation, has been outfitted as a "media studio on wheels," visiting each school for three weeks. We'll be "on location" at each school between January and June 2010.
Coming with the bus is a trained, two-person team of media-teaching professionals, who will guide students and teachers through the process of developing a short documentary about an artist or arts group from their community. The documentary created by the students will be showcased on this Web site, creating a snapshot of the rich diversity of the arts across America.
In addition to online curricular support and in-person learning opportunities for students and teachers, each selected school will receive a media equipment package (including an Apple iMac, iLife 09’ software and video recording gear) as well as $1,000 to support further development of the new digital arts and humanities programs.
On Location provides students with experiences using digital media to tell stories, share, and explore their world. Through arts-centered learning projects like On Location, students develop the ability to
- think critically and creatively,
- communicate effectively, and
- work collaboratively
—all key 21st Century skills
that prepare young people for
the real world.
